Color Theory: Natural Levels and Underlying Pigment

This is a little cheat sheet I made for my students.  After finding so many conflicting views about levels, contributing pigments and underlying pigments, I just wanted to make it easy.  We know that violet is the dominant pigment at a level 3....but that's not the color exposed when lifting!

This also helps my students determine which level they have achieved when lifting hair.  Do you still see orange?  Then you are not going to get anywhere trying to tone with a level 9.

Keep this one on the wall in your color room.
